However, other people just pass these ornaments to some of their friends without the maintenance guidelines. So if you have one and do not know what to do for its maintenance here are the most viable water fountain tips you should do.
- Air bubbles. When having the fountain for the first time, turn its motor on and off repeatedly to condition the motor and pass out those bubbles. For floor water fountain you have to set it on the floor or ground before doing this to make sure the fountain is stable. Always check if the water pump is fully under water.
- Cleaning. Since cleaning is one of the most important procedures among water fountain tips you have to do it on regular basis. Normally water fountains need cleaning every 4 to 6 months but if you have a garden fountain or a solar water fountain then you have to do the cleaning more often because they can accumulate more dirt from their environment. Doing it is easy. You just have to empty the water fountain of its water, clean and check all its components including the pump, the filter and the water distribution system.
- Spot those dry spots. Water normally flows where gravity pulls it. However new water fountains need to be guided of their water where it must flow accordingly.
- Vibrations or noise. Hearing those unfamiliar noises on your fountain could be caused by low water level. Make it a habit to always check the water level often especially for outdoor water fountain and always replenish the water. If the noise is coming from the pump try placing a sponge underneath it to serve as a shock absorber.
- Smell. This is the common problem for outdoor or garden fountains and this is usually caused by the build up of algae. There are anti-algae or anti-white scale solution you can add to the water every month to prevent this.
- Water flow. When there seems to be problems with the water flow check if the plug of the pump is properly secured. If it is then check the tubing kinks and the level of water. Pipes and tubing when improperly attached can disrupt the normal flow of water. Also debris or other impurities can also clog the tubing.
- Weather. As one of the most important water fountain tips on areas that are severely affected by cold winters, try to keep your fountains out of the open because when water freezes it can damage the pump and the hosing system.
- White spots. These are white mineral spots that are caused by hard water particularly tap water. You can wipe them off clean by using products such as a CLR or using distilled water instead of tap water for the fountain.
